LIFE COACHING!!!

Picture
"Life Shrinks and Expands in proportion to our courage!"

I'm a licensed counselor with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. I've spent almost two decades trying to understand how to help people and along the way I have grown. My path was not a straight line so I am very familiar with the struggles, twists, and confusion that often comes when we are trying to find our way and follow our dreams. Life Coaching is an opportunity to get guidance, receive encouragement, develop a life plan and examine what might be holding you back from your goals and dreams.

They say if you can't do, then teach. While I don't believe that every coach has to have succeeded in the area that they are coaching, I do think that there is credibility when they have had a degree of success. An athletic coach who has had some success as an athlete does have more credibility at times. So, by extension, a life coach should have some experience and success in life. I'm not simply someone who took this up as a part time job or who has failed at other careers. I have some experience in life and it took me a while to get here. I chose my career and went after it, this was not a fall back. Not only have I studied psychology, I have lived life. I know what it is like to struggle to find your calling, to discover what gives your life meaning, and then to bring those dreams into reality. I not only have the training and expertise, but I have lived it and I believe that makes a significant difference.

Life Coaching and Therapy
Picture
The lines between therapy and life coaching have been blurred since coaching came on the scene. Although I do both, they are vastly different in many ways. The depth of the relationship is very different. Therapy can be intimate, involving getting to know a person's deepest thoughts, feelings and experiences. The purpose of therapy is healing AND growth. Growth and goals are the focus of life coaching- the aim is to identify and clarify where you want to go and what the obstacles are to getting you there. My role may involve getting to know your story and helping you identify what you want, but the process would not focus so much on your pain and struggles as much as how we can get you to the next level. Make no mistake this can involve painful work and may mean taking a hard look at yourself. Because of the difference in focus, Coaching is often more brief and may require less contact to achieve your goals.

What does Life Coaching look like?

There are several tiers to Life Coaching:

Tier 1: The initial meeting (45-60 min)- This is where I gather background and we work together on understanding your goals. $200.

Tier 2: Follow-up Sessions (45 min)- These sessions are designed to continue to refine your goals, identify obstacles, and develop strategies to overcome those obstacles. $150.

Tier 3: Maintenance Sessions (30 min)- These are often done by phone and are designed to help you continue to advance and stay on course. They can often be used to adjust your strategy if new obstacles are discovered. The spacing of these sessions varies and is determined collaboratively, often with a tapering off plan in mind. $100.
